Pre-game presser excerpts:

Pryor

On L.G. Gill, a fifth year Maryland transfer he’s very familiar with: “Maturity, being an older guy. Strong build…he’s going to battle”.

On challenge of pressing two primary ball handling guards (Melo Trimble and Anthony Cowan)

Pryor also discussed his performance against USC-Upstate, what he needs to work on, impressions of the Hoya-Terp rivalry, G’Town’s press improvement, and the possibility of frontcourt guys shooting long distance against Maryland.

Campbell

On stopping Trimble from driving: “That’s what we’ve been focusing on the last two days; staying in front of him, keeping a hand up”.

On the Trimble – Cowan tandem: “Coach Turgeon is just letting them play. We have to contain those two…”.

Campbell also discussed running against Maryland, implications of last year’s game, personal discussions with Dion Wiley, relationship with Cowan, likelihood of pressing today, state of his shooting and game, summer development focus, meaning of the game locally and desire to see the series continue yearly.

JT3

On the rivalry: “Obviously the schools have a lot of history. It’s not recent history. We’re working on it”.

On keeping Trimble from going downhill: “It’s a challenge. He’s what, a junior now, and nobody’s figured out how to do it. He has a knack for getting in those situations, he’s had a lot of success in those situations, and they do a good job of putting him in those situations over, over and over again. So you know you’re going to have to deal with that…”

Additionally the coach discussed perfect world scheduling this year, challenges Cowan presents, Gill as a player, how different do the Terps look, crowd expectations, desire for the match up to continue, importance of depth in quick turnover games, needed improvement from the Upstate game, how to attack Maryland’s defense, Campbell’s status on the team and development and the possibility of outside shots existing for Hoya frontcourt players.
