Tip off is Saturday, noon at Verizon Center. The foe stands as South Carolina-Upstate.

How will G'Town bounce back from last year and are the Hoyas along the way developmentally to do so, and is it in fact going to happen?

Head coach John Thompson III, junior forward Isaac Copeland and redshirt senior forward Rodney Pryor discussed those topics and more like defensive improvement/communication, what SC Upstate presents and mentoring young players, yesterday.

They didn’t reveal starting lineups – see @HoyaReport.com game day for that – but shared a lot of good insight into where the program is.

Excerpts follow, while complete audio of these sessions is available on Premium Court!

Copeland on younger teammates’ mindset: “They’re excited. They’re going to naturally come out with a little bit more anxiety. But I think through our practices we’ve tested them in several different ways”.

Pryor on what happens when mid-majors face high majors, from the former’s perspective: “I think it’s a higher level of energy at mid-major programs. I know being a leader at Robert Morris, when we went into those games, we wanted to come out and compete, have fun, leave it all out on the floor”.

JT3 on his team’s readiness: “I think so…We’ve had a couple of weeks, months of going against each other…”.

JT3 asked whether there were any injuries to report: “No. Nothing…everybody’s sore, nicked up…but nothing major”.

JT3 on offensive go-to-guys emerging: “It will be very different than last year and maybe the previously two years…Are there some people where as a coach you come down and want to get a shot for? Absolutely.

"But whereas I think in many ways we were predictable (previously), I don’t think we are going to be predictable this year”.

JT3 on USC Upsate: “They’re a veteran team. Local kid coming home in Cunningham. What they are is they have a presence inside…But then they go four out and make shots"
