March 21, 2015 - Things looked good early on for NCAA Tournament fourth seeded Georgetown as the Hoyas led Utah 21-10 with 13:21 to go in the first half, five three pointers had been made, stops produced and momentum seemingly wearing Blue and Grey. Senior swingman Jabril Trawick's second three ball just tickled the twine, causing Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak to call timeout. The Hoya Nation was surely feeling good about their team.

About 11 seconds later Trawick took a spill after being contacted in the back by Utah's Jakob Poeltl while guarding its star, junior guard Delon Wright in a pick and roll set. Utah then scored a three pointer, Trawick got up holding his left elbow. Though he left and returned to action, Trawick's incident seemed to portend bad things for Georgetown, who eventually fell to the Utes 75-64 in the Big Dance's third round.
After Trawick's tumble the Utes outscored G'Town 11-0 over almost five minutes, using a sagging man defense in which they stayed connected to shooters in stopping the Hoyas, producing easy baskets and in half court situations eventually getting to the cup. The Hoyas would regain the lead by four before entering intermission tied at 32.
Utah regrouped at halftime, taking the lead (37-36) for good with 18:27 to play on a Jordan Loveridge three ball, answering every Hoya charge along the way: For instance, with 7:01 on the clock, G'Town knotted the game at 53. By the game's last TV timeout, the Utes led 60-55, having made two of three shots and gone 3-4 from the foul line.
That kind of efficiency was key for Utah, who finished 57.9% from the field and 57.1% on three pointers. G'Town by comparison shot 43.6% overall, 36% on three balls.
A quartet of Hoyas scored in double figures for head coach John Thompson III; freshman swingman L.J. Peak led all scorers with 18 points, going 7-8 from the field, while freshman forward Isaac Copeland finished with 14 points. Junior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera logged 12 points, went 0-7 from beyond the arc yet paced the team with six boards, while Trawick finished with 10 points, all before his spill.
Utah, a fifth seed, got 12 points apiece from Poeltl, a freshman center and Wright, the latter also contributing five rebounds and five assists. Junior guard Brandon Taylor led the team with 14 points, while reserve senior center Dallin Bachynski played a key role scoring nine points and registering a game high eight caroms. Dakarai Tucker, a junior backup guard had 11 points, five rebounds for the victors.
The Utes (26-11) are headed to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen round, where they will take on tomorrow's Duke versus San Diego State winner.
Georgetown's '14-15 campaign, one in which the Hoyas finished second during the BIG EAST's regular season, made the semifinal round of it's conference tournament and entered postseason play ranked 23rd nationally, is complete at 22-11.
