Clark gets first official award of season

November 28, 2011 - Last week's Maui Invitational garnered a fifth placed finish for Georgetown, one in which senior guard Jason Clark shined. Based in certain on production of 23 points, 4.3 rebounds and one assist per contest (three), Clark was named to the All-Maui Invitational team.
Joining him, as previously reported on HoyaReport.com's Premium Court message board, were Tim Hardaway Jr., Austin Rivers, Thomas Robinson and Ryan Kelly.

Jason Clark Named to Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team
WASHINGTON - After leading the Georgetown University men's basketball team to a thrilling 91-88 overtime win against No. 8-ranked Memphis on Wednesday, Hoyas senior guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) was named to the Maui Invitational All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the three-day event on Wednesday night.
Georgetown went 2-1 in the Maui Invitational and earned a fifth place finish. The Hoyas, who host IUPUI at Verizon Center on Monday, Nov. 28, improved to 4-1 overall.
The Hoyas departed the Islands on Wednesday night and arrived in Washington, D.C. on Thanksgiving afternoon around 4 p.m. after a stop in Los Angeles.
Clark was impressive throughout the tournament and led the eight-team field in scoring with 69 points, averaging 23.0 points per game. In three games, he hit 57.1 percent of his field goals (24-of-42), including 60.0 percent of his three-pointers (12-of-20), while grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game.
In Wednesday's big overtime win against No. 8 Memphis, Clark scored a game-high 26 points and hit a three-pointer with 51 seconds left in overtime to give the Hoyas the lead for good. Clark hit 9-of-17 shots from the floor and 4-of-7 from three-point lead for 26 points, adding three rebounds and two steals.
That performance was preceded by his outing on Tuesday, when Clark scored a career-high 28 points and tied a career-high with six three-point field goals as the Hoyas beat Chaminade, 88-61, in the second round.
Clark scored a team-high 15 points - including a pair of three-pointers in the final minutes - and had five rebounds as Georgetown lost, 67-63, to No. 14 Kansas in the first game.
Through five games, Clark leads Georgetown in scoring with 19.0 points per game, which ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. He is shooting 52.2 percent from the floor (35-of-67) and 46.7 percent from three-point land (14-of-30) while hitting 78.6 percent of his free throws (11-of-14). Clark is also averaging 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists.
Clark was joined on the all-tournament team by Ryan Kelly (MVP) and Austin Rivers of Duke, Tim Hardaway Jr. of Michigan and Thomas Robinson of Kansas.
The Hoyas had four players average in double figures in scoring during the Maui Invitational. Senior center Henry Sims (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph's), who scored a career-high 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists in the Memphis win, averaged 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
Freshman forward Otto Porter (Sikeston, Mo./Scott County Central), who scored a career-high 17 points and had seven rebounds in the win over Chaminade, was third on the team with 12.7 points per game. He also contributed a team-best 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.0 blocks. Junior forward Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) averaged 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Georgetown is back in action on Monday, Nov. 28, hosting IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis) at Verizon Center. Tipoff at The Phonebooth is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on MASN, with Jason Knapp and Mark Tillmon calling the action.
