Asheville is paced in scoring by guard Dwayne Sutton's 12.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He's the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week.
Joining Sutton in double figure scoring are sophomore guard Kevin Vanetta, senior forward Sam Hughes and Dylan Smith, a freshman guard. The first two account for 11 points each time out, the latter follows closely at 10.6 points per game.
The relatively young Bulldogs have won four straight and five of the last six. Included in that run are victories over Drexel, Big South Conference foe Campbell, and ETSU.
Georgetown suffered a disturbing loss to Monmouth on Tuesday; not that the Hawks are not talented, as the MAAC conference school have also taken down UCLA, USC and Notre Dame within the last 30 days, but G'Town was fairly outclassed throughout.
Leading the Blue and Grey in scoring is senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera at 16.2 points per game. His recent work, dropping 27 versus UNC-Wilmington and 12 against Brown have landed him on the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll. Monmouth saw him score 18 points.
Two other Hoyas are in the double figure scoring zone - sophomore forward Isaac Copeland (12.2 ppg ) and Bradley Hayes (10.4 ), a senior center, while a third in sophomore guard L.J. Peak is just shy of it at 9.8 ppg.
Hayes by far leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 7.2 caroms each time out.
Can Georgetown, the BIG EAST's preseason second ranked team get back in the win column against Asheville, picked fifth before the season in Big South action?
We will know Saturday afternoon.
