Waters bucks trend

Tremont Waters has in fact chosen G'Town!
Tremont Waters has in fact chosen G'Town!

Georgetown’s pursuit of players has been overall a positive enterprise during John Thompson III’s twelve-plus year tenure. High school All Americans such as Greg Monroe have been recruited to The Hilltop, along with fellow McDonald All-Americans Austin Freeman and Chris Wright. Other highly desired performers, from Dajuan Summers to D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera have also donned Blue and Grey.

But there has been a recruiting dead spot so to speak; outside of Wright in 2007, Thompson’s program hasn’t been able to lure the highly regarded primary ball handler. That’s not to say guys like Jason Clark couldn’t play – he was an All-BIG EAST player mind you – it’s just that big name point/combo guards haven’t chosen the program out of high school.

That’s changed: Welcome Tremont Waters.

As has been speculated and reported on via HoyaReport.com, Waters, the Rivals.com 36th ranked overall, five star designated, Class of 2017 point guard from Connecticut has in fact chosen Georgetown.

Thompson and his staff, including assistant Anthony Soloman who did much of the work in nabbing Waters, bested Indiana, Kentucky, Yale, Kansas, UConn and Duke, Tremont’s final options. The likes of UVA, St. John’s, Stanford and Seton Hall, among others, were all at one time in the running. In the end IU, the Hoyas and Wildcats were left standing.

A true point guard, Waters, standing 5’11” and weighing 160 pounds, has shown he can not only make others better but score impressively himself. Rivals.com’s Recruiting Analyst, Eric Bossi is impressed, opining Waters is “capable of making a pretty significant impact off the bat” at G’Town.

For more on Waters’ recruitment, including some of the backstory regarding how he ended up choosing the Blue and Grey, got to Premium Court. Also there is a discussion of why the Hoyas didn’t land a big time lead guard for years, before hauling in Waters.

In recruiting him, they’ve secured an All-American, one that has a chance of being Burger or Jordan game guy.

Be sure to return here, as more on Waters will be published soon.
