Start to finish Blue and Grey win

December 8, 2014 - Yesterday before a sparse Verizon Center crowd, Georgetown scored the game's first points against Towson and never looked back, eventually chalking up a 78-46 victory, on that took place in the BB&T Classic. The Hoyas are now 5-2, while Towson's Tigers stand 7-2.
"That's a pretty good team. They are better than the final score indicates" said Head Hoya John Thompson III of Towson. In preparation for the game his team focused on defense, to good effect; Towson shot a paltry 23.8% in the first half before finishing with a 40.9% mark. Georgetown led by as much as 24 in the first half, 35 in the second.

"From the beginning we were attentive. I thought we did a very good job of helping each other, which our defense has to continue to progress" said Thompson, who also noted "I thought our guys did a good job of working together as a unit".
Towson's head coach Pat Skerry indicated "Well I think they're really good defensively". His staff was "really concerned about turning the ball over", ultimately cededing 12 more points to the Hoyas' effort thought giveaways, which Skerry thought "hurt us".
Skerry suggested the Hoyas' length caused trouble shooting and receiving passes. Additionally, "they get you really deep into the shot clock", which he thought contributed to the Tigers going 0-12 for the game from beyond the arc.
Towson may have shot horribly from three point land, but G'Town didn't - the Hoyas sank 11 of 22 three pointers, their best such output for the year. As such, Skerry shared "our thing was, we're gonna make them shoot 3s" instead of give up shots in the paint, "unfortunately for us, they did it".
Thompson believes "I think we're a better shooting team that what we have shown, so as our guys start to settle in the ball is going to go in. I think one day we will get to a point where you're going to have to pick your poison. That's a process, that's an evolution and we're evolving".
Georgetown broke the game open for good via back-to-back two three balls by freshman forward Paul White, the first being sunk at the first stanza's 10:57 mark. Those buckets ballooned a seven point advantage to 13, and the Hoyas would maintain a double digit lead going forward.
Those shots, executed after Towson tried a 2-3 zone were produced like most of the Hoyas' offense from "guys feeding off each other", said Thompson. In the end "Paul can shoot, the ball goes in".
White finished with 11 points, going 4-6 from the field. Junior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera paced the Hoyas with 16 points, while senior center Joshua Smith accounted for 12 points and a team high seven rebounds. Rounding out Thompson's quintet of double figure scorers were freshman forward Isaac Copeland (10 points) and Jabril Trawick, a senior swingman who logged 11 points.
Towson received 10 points from junior guard Four McGlynn, four under his season average. Sophomore forward John Davis came off the bench to also score 10 points while leading the game with 10 caroms for the Tigers, who next play at Temple, Wednesday.
Also on December 10th, Verizon Center will be rocking - Kansas' Jayhawks, ranked 10th/11th nationally fly in for a nationally televised 7p match up.
