Providence has fallen in each of its two league games, the latest a 91-61 road setback to Villanova. The Friars are on a three game losing streak, and stand 10-5 on the season.
Standout senior guard Bryce Cotton leads Provy and the league in conference game scoring at 25 ppg. He's second in the league diming, logging 5.5 apg in BIG EAST games.
The Friars, who switch defenses frequently and work to allow Cotton a free hand, also get 12 points and 6.9 rebounds per game from senior forward Kadeem Batts. Junior forward LaDontae Henton paces the Friars with 7.3 caroms each time out, and adds 12.7 ppg.
To hear Georgetown's head coach John Thompson III discuss the Friars, Provy's desire for a win, his team's preparation for its upcoming three game road streak and other topics including Cotton, see Premium Court. Also there are quotes from senior Aaron Bowen on Cotton and a hungry Provy crew.
Any discussion of the Hoyas scoring begins with its starting backcourt, senior Markel Starks and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, a sophomore; the latter's 21.5 ppg is good for third in BIG EAST play and 61.5 % shooting from three point land is fifth in conference. Smith-Rivera's eight made three balls are equaled by only three others amongst the BIG EAST's top 15 long ball shooters. Starks is tops in BIG EAST games at the charity stripe (100%) and sixth in minutes played (38), while also scoring 16 ppg.
Senior forward Nate Lubick 's 6.1 rebounds is top in Blue and Grey. Buoying the Hoyas recently has been its bench play, including that of junior forward Mikael Hopkins and Bowen. Hopkins contributes 5.3 rebounds ppg and a team high 1.3 blocks each game. Bowen, a swingman, has connected on two of three, beyond the arc shots, a 66.7% clip that is tied for second in league play. He also has chipped in 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds each time out.
