Hoyas:
Mikael Hopkins - 6'9" senior forward, Team Takeover - Rebounded well early. Scored six of his 10 points in the first half, all in the paint. Played with force.
Jason Clark - 6'3" guard, Spirou Charleroi, Team Takeover - A former Hoya who now stars in Belgium, Clark defended and passed, while scoring 11 points.
According to him, used the game to...
Brad Hayes - 6'10" junior center, DCX - Logged 11 points. Scored early on a few shots over his left shoulder and stick backs.
Non-Hoyas:
Shevon Thompson - 6'10" freshman center, George Mason, Oohs and Ahhs - A long paint defender, Thompson loves to protect the rim. Scored eight points, all round the basket, including a nice rim rattling dunk.
Josh Hart - 6'5" sophomore guard/forward, Villanova, Team Takeover - Hart demonstrated his development focus, outside shooting, by hitting two three pointers early. Also drove, getting fouled in the process, while also distributing the ball in the open floor.
Marcus Thornton - 6'3" senior guard, William and Mary, Oohs and Ahhs - Scored 12 points, at times taking over the game. Also found teammates, of which he said "I've been working on", as well as "my floater and defense".
As a passer, is learning when to dime and when to score; had an opportunity with around 10 seconds to go and his team down three, but decided to feed a teammate in the lane. It was certainly an unselfish play, but time, score and situation dictated he should have shot that ball from beyond the arc.
Despite being a work in progress as a dimer, Thornton is one of the best guards in this year's Pro City Kenner League.
Chris MacCauley - 6'9" senior forward/center, Texas A&M - Commerce, Oohs and Ahhs - MacCauley demonstrated himself as a finisher who can hit mid-range shots. In the second half picked up his play, scoring 18 points.
Christian Jackson - 6'4" guard/forward, Premier Athletics - Jackson hit several three pointers, finishing with 12 points. Can get buckets in isolation and scheme. Scored 14 points.
Jackson, also known as 'Boo', indicated he's headed to China this month, likely the NDL's Jiangsu Guoli franchise. Is one of the greatest scorers in Frostburg State history.
Kevin Larsen - 6'9" junior center, George Washington, DCX - A native of Denmark, Larsen just returned from there, having played on that country's men's national team. Larsen said of the experience "It was good".
Has clearly become more toned and stronger. Now tips the scales at 260 pounds. Uses it to score around the tin and clean the glass. Has good hands and solid footwork. Logged 10 points.
Corey Spence - 5'9" senior point guard, Northern Colorado, DCX - Having become much stronger since his days in Baltimore, Spence loves to drive the lane, where he can find teammates or score. Did so Sunday, while also scoring eight points. Doesn't back down.
Indicated his junior season at Northern Colorado was an up and down affair, but has high hopes as a senior. "After the season, we had a heart to heart" said Spence of a frank discussion he had for B.J. Hill, the team's coach. "I understand him and he understands me now. I'm looking forward to this season".
Darian Bryant - 6'4" freshman guard/forward, George Washington, DCX - A former paint player, Bryant has worked hard over the last year or so to become a swingman, and is on the way to doing so. Attacked the rim off the bounce, in half court and fast break settings. Also sank a nice two dribble right - step back elbow jumper.
Bryant contributed 16 points.
Side Notes:
Andrew Washington, also known as 'Spongebob' continued to prove he's a grizzled, savvy player, one that gets buckets from all over the court.
The lefty likes to use his strength and mouth; told an opposing player's relative to be quiet and sit down, as the other party was upset over one of Sponge's fouls. Also, after sinking a contested jumper, told the opponent "That's what you get for running your mouth". Had 28 points for Premier Athletics.
Corey Allmond - Last year the 6'2", sweet shooting Allmond played for the Maine Red Claws. Indicated he likely will not return to the NBA Developmental League, instead exploring options in either Switzerland or Sweden. Swished through 17 points. Plays for Premier Athletics.
