Govan is showing game

May 22, 2014 - Presently ranked 60th by Rivals.com, Class of 2015 and 6'10", 270 pound Georgetown committed center Jessie Govan is a guy who may be undervalued at the moment, a player that in college could really blossom. Just ask his travel team coach, Dana Dingle.
"Yes, tremendous upside" said Dingle, who coaches Govan with the New York Lightening on Nike's EYBL circuit, when asked if the future is bright for Govan. "He's skilled, he's probably as skilled or the most skilled big man in country. You know as far as back to the basket play".

Overall this year in EYBL play, Govan has proven his coach correct, averaging 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest. He's shot 54.1% from the field, while 26 of his 57 rebounds have been offensive.
During the EYBL's third leg in Hampton last weekend, Govan didn't have his best outing of the season offensively- his personal tourney high was 17 points, the low mark stood at two points and twice 10 point were reached - though to his credit he never pulled down less than seven rebounds. There were times when Lightening guards should have passed him the ball in post up situations, but Jessie continued to compete.
"I could have played better" said Govan, after his team's 57-51 loss to King James, where he finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Given the team went winless the previous day, he noted "We just have to figure out tomorrow how to get two wins, just not to make this weekend a disaster". For the record NYL finished 2-2 during Hampton, and are 7-5 in EYBL play.
On the floor Govan proved he's capable of doing work offensively in the low box, mid and high posts. Skill work and improved physical conditioning have made it possible, in addition to an impressive work ethic. The last two, a willingness to put his nose to the grindstone and improve his body also allow Govan to be a solid low post defender and above average rebounder.
More on that is at Premium Court, as is why he chose Georgetown, who was bonded with during his visit and during the recruiting process, the person that most molded his game, as well as his upcoming camp schedule. Also there is a quick rundown of his game.
