August 3, 2012 - City rivalries never die in hoops, witness the ongoing DC vs Philly battle, one raged on hardwoods, black tops, barber shops and phone lines constantly. Partisans of each city tout their area as being supreme in basketball.
This Saturday, August 4th, something supplying tangible evidence in terms of this question occurs: The-Ball Showcase.
Held at George Washington's Smith Center, The-Ball Showcase is the first offering of the league of similar name; The Basketball Alumni Legends League will pit former college stars in various locales against their counterparts in other cities.
Saturday, DC's team boasts the likes of Jason Clark, Austin Freeman, Henry Sims, Chris Wright (G'Town guys), John Gilchrist, DJ Strawberry, James Gist (Maryland Terps), Chris Monroe and Will Thomas (hailing from GW and George Mason, respectively). They are not the only ones.
From Philly, expect Villanova's Curtis Sumpter and Allan Ray, Temple Owl's Dionte Christmas Ramone Moore and Mark Tyndale, plus La Salle's Rodney Green along with Pat Carroll and Dwayne Jones of St. Joe's, in addition to others.
