March 28, 2014 - Though the high school basketball season recently ended, hoops in the DMV is still going full bore. It's all-star and AAU time.
This weekend, a number of events dot the local landscape. B-Ball nuts can get their fill Friday - Sunday, March 28-30, 2014.
Friday:
PG Coaches Association All-Star Games - Slated for Prince George's Community College (301 Largo Rd, Kettering, MD 20774) this event boasts girls at 6pm, followed by boys from Southern Maryland Athletic Conference schools going against their Anne Arundel County counterparts, a 7:30p start. Those games are set to be followed by boys from PG County public schools matching up against private school guys from the county (9p). All participants are high school seniors.
Saturday:
DMV Elite Unsigned Senior Showcase - Boys not yet signed to colleges can compete in this evaluation event, full of not only games but stretching, skill development, physical training and measurement. Bowie City Gym is the site (4100 Northview Drive, Bowie, MD, 20716), with action lasting between 12:30p and 6p. Around 30 D2, D3, Juco and prep school coaches are expected. Time is 1230p - 6p.
One City All Star Extravaganza - Starting at 5p for girls, 7p for boys, Public School seniors will compete against Private, Independent and Charter School brethren. Galluadet University's Model HS (800 Florida Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002) is where both games will be held. The OCASE Foundation is producing this event.
Separation Sport's Metro Challenge - DeMatha Catholic HS (4313 Madison St, Hyattsville, MD 20781) is the spot for this exposure event, boasting not only many of the well known players in the DMV, but a slew of talent evaluators and scouting services along with D2, D3, JUCO, NAIA and prep school coaches. They are attending to scout non-high school seniors play, while the kids also receive coaching from high school and former college bench leaders. The time is 9a - 6p.
Sunday:
DMV Elite Premier Run Showcase - Again Bowie City Gym is the location for boys, this time for non-senior high school guys. As with the Unsigned Senior Showcase, more than games will inform the college coaches (no D1) and scouting services of a player's game, since stretching physical conditioning, measurements and skill development will also. Time is 12:30p - 6p.
