Derrickson leaves PVI

August 11, 2014 - Confirming what was initially reported on Twitter's @HoyaNation, Class of 2015 forward and Georgetown commit Marcus Derrickson has indeed decided to change high schools, departing Paul VI (VA) for Brewster Academy (NH).
Derrickson's possible transfer was mulled by he and his family for months, culminating with him leaving the Washington Catholic Athletic Association for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council. Both are considered leading conferences in pre-college basketball - the WCAC amongst high school leagues, while NEPSAC is believed to pace all prep school conferences.

As a PVI Panther last year, Derrickson averaged 11.8 points per game for the Panthers, who went on to win the league title. On the Nike EYBL travel team circuit this summer with Team Takeover, Marcus accounted for 11 points each time out, on 48.2% from the field, 78.4% from the charity stripe, while canning 41.5% of his three balls.
A 6'8" player capable of shooting past three point range, making plays for others and increasingly getting to the cup, Derrickson has a good feel for the game offensively and how to use his strengths. Physically his weight has fluctuated in high school - at his best he weights around 240 pounds - possibly contributing to several leg injuries. Derrickson, who will bang and fight for boards is not the best defender in space, yet has worked hard on his lateral quickness and defensive reactions.
Some suggest the move might not be the best for Derrickson. Others in the DMV applaud his transfer. For a point-counterpoint discussion of Marcus' decision, see Premium Court.
