Clark Scores 31 Points, No. 10 Georgetown Beats DePaul, 83-75

Rosemont, Ill. - Senior guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) scored a career-high 31 points and hit five three-pointers to lead three players in double figures as No. 10 Georgetown used a balanced effort en route to an 83-75 win over DePaul at Allstate Arena Tuesday night.
It was the second-straight win for the Hoyas, who improve to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the BIG EAST, while DePaul falls to 10-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Junior forward Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) scored 14 points and had five rebounds, while senior center Henry Sims (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) added 16 points and seven rebounds and sophomore forward Nate Lubick (Southborough, Mass./St. Marks) added four points, seven rebounds and a team-high six assists.
Clark scored 18 of his points in the second half as Georgetown used a 12-2 run midway through the second half to push the lead to 12 points, 60-48 on the senior's three-pointer.
The Hoyas led by six points at the half, 37-31, but a jumper from Cleveland Melvin and a three-pointer from James Crockett pulled DePaul to within one point early in the final 20 minutes. Clark hit a three and Sims tipped in a pair of shots, pushing the lead to eight points, 44-36, and forcing the Blue Demons to call a timeout.
A layup from Clark pushed the lead to 10 points (46-36) and it remained 10 after a Sims layup, 48-38, but the Blue Demons went on an 8-0 run and pulled to within 48-46 on a three-pointer from Moses Morgan.
Freshman forward Greg Whittington (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) tipped in a basket, starting a 12-2 run over 4:00 minutes as Georgetown took its biggest lead, 60-48, on a three-pointer from Clark with 9:47 to play in the game.
The Hoyas took a six-point lead (37-31) into the half, hitting 51.7 percent of their field goals (15-of-29) and with Clark scoring 13 points to lead the way. Tied at 4-all early, Clark hit a three and a Sims dunk made it 9-4. A three-pointer from Thompson and a jumper from Whittington pushed the lead to eight points, 24-16 before a layup from Cleveland Melvin and a three from Worrel Clahar had DePaul within three points, 24-21.
With Clark scoring five points, the Blue & Gray used a 10-2 spurt over 4:23, taking a 34-23 lead on the senior's three-pointer with 2:48 to play in the half. A three from DePaul's Brandon Young cut the lead to six at the break.
Georgetown shot 52.6 percent from the floor (30-of-57), hit 7-of-13 three-pointers (53.8%) and hit only 16-of-28 free throws (57.1%).
Freshman forward Otto Porter (Sikeston, Mo./Scott County Central) made his first career start in place of sophomore guard Markel Starks (Accokeek, Md./Georgetown Prep), who had a string of 17-straight starts stopped.
The Hoyas return home to host BIG EAST rival Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for noon and the game will be shown live on MASN, with Mike Gleason and Bob Wenzel calling the action. Locally, fans can tune in to Rich Chvotkin's radio call on Sports Talk AM 570.
