April 20, 2012 - Tomorrow T.C. Williams High School's newly refurbished gym will host an event that has boasted some of the best players in basketball over 38 years - the Capital Classic. Normally an event when soon-to-be graduated high school boys are the focus, this year's 'Cap' also presents similarly situated girls.

See TheCapitalClassic.com for game time and ticket purchase information. A brief summary follows:
Girls Game #1 - Maryland vs Virginia 12p
Girls Game #2 - Private vs Interhigh 2p
Boys Game #1 - Suburban All Stars vs District All Stars 6p
Boys game #2 - Capital All Stars vs U.S. All Stars 8p
Of particularly interest to supporters of the Washington area's largest university: Four- fifths of Maryland's incoming men's freshman class are set to participate, while another student athlete who may become a Terp will also strap on his basketball boots.
The opportunity to play with future, fellow incoming Maryland freshman is "fun" to Seth Allen, a 6'2", 185 pound guard from Woodbridge, VA. "It's just all of us joking around" he said, before noting "I wish Jake was here. But he just got his tonsils out".
Joining Allen are Charles Mitchell (PF, 6'7", 270 pounds, Marietta, GA), Damonte Dodd (C, 6'10", 260 pounds, Queen Anne's, MD), and Shaquille Cleare (PF, 6'9, 280 pounds, The Bahamas). Jake Layman, a 6'8", 190 pound forward is the missing Maryland signee.
The player who may be a Terp is Sam Cassell, Jr., a 6'2" guard from Baltimore, MD. It's either Maryland, Pitt, or USF for Cassell. See Twitter's @ronbailey19 for supposition of his decision.
All of these Maryland-related players will suit up for the U.S. All Stars, a squad that's more or less an ACC preview, as nine of eleven players have signed on to schools in that conference.
Lacing them up with future league opponents was called "real exciting" by Mike Tobey, a 6'10", 210 pound frontcourt player from New York. "All of these guys except Andrew (White, 6'4", 190 pound swingman headed to Kansas) and Sam have committed to our league".
Many other talented players, female and male will participate. Come on down to T.C. Williams, Alexandria, VA's flagship high school, to witness them all.
