Missi Makes Board
As a 6-foot-11 forward with a crude rim protecting presence with an all around offensive skill set, Class of 2024 prospect Yves Missi has suddenly become a national level recruit on Georgetown's radar.
The Hoyas have been keeping close tabs on Missi's production rate and his growth as a high motored big with the PSA Cardinals program throughout the off-season. Head coach Patrick Ewing and staff went out to see him play down in Orlando, Fla. for the Nike EYBL Session 1. The Hoyas coaching staff again saw Missi on the Nike EYBL circuit at the Pacers Athletic Center in Westfield, Indiana.
A veritable fly swatter with innate instincts and timing, Missi had a performance of six blocks during PSA's 53-50 win over BABC at the aforementioned EYBL Session II in Indiana.
Versatile with an evolving deep jumper and a catch and post game, Missi has heard from a handful of high major programs since the contact period began on June 15. While he recently visited UConn unofficially and has garnered the interest of Kentucky, Missi has heard from Kansas, Michigan, Stanford, Maryland, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Georgetown and a barrage of others since last week. A high academic pedigree which aligns with the student athlete expectation level at Georgetown, Missi is also hearing from Harvard.
In quick hit fashion, Missi (who is from Cameroon originally) has gone from a relatively unknown at West Nottingham (Md.) to one of the top unsigned bigs in the country and a Top-3 national recruit regardless of class.
"Yves is one of the best players in his class," said PSA Cardinals coach Terrance "Munch" Williams. "His upside and skill set puts him in position where he should be playing basketball for a long time. He is also one of the most well rounded individuals you will ever meet. With that being said, he is primed to be one of the next five star bigs to come out of the PSA Cardinals program."
Georgetown's aggressive pursuit of the menacing shot blocker comes at a time when the Hoyas are revitalizing the roster. They've added to the frontline with 6-foot-9 UConn transfer Akok Akok, once a promising recruit out of Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. Akok showed promise as a freshman, averaging a team-best 2.6 blocks per game. His play sputtered and his minutes dwindled significantly, however, as he averaged 3.4 points and 3.2 rebounds last season as a junior at UConn. He enters Georgetown with two years of eligibility remaining.
