No. 10 Georgetown Continues Road Trip on Tuesday Night at DePaul

WASHINGTON - The 10th-ranked Georgetown University men's basketball team wraps up a two-game road trip on Tuesday, Jan. 17, visiting BIG EAST rival DePaul. Tipoff at Allstate Arena is slated for 7 p.m.

The game will be shown live on ESPN2, with John Saunders and LaPhonso Ellis calling all of the action. The radio call of Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on Sports Talk AM 570.

Georgetown bounced back from consecutive losses with a 69-49 win at St. John's on Sunday at Madison Square Garden, improving the team's record to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas are ranked No. 10 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches' poll.

The 49 points allowed in the win over St. John's marked the 10th time this season the Hoyas had held an opponent to 60 points or fewer. Georgetown ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, allowing only 59.0 points per game, and ranks among the top-25 nationally in that category.

The meeting with DePaul will be the 26th all-time between the programs, with the Hoyas leading the head-to-head series, 19-6. Georgetown has won the last 10 meetings between the teams, including five in a row on the road.

Georgetown moved into the top-10 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll on January 2, appearing at No. 9 following the team's win at then-No. 4 Louisville. It was the sixth-straight year the Hoyas have made at least one appearance in the top-10. Georgetown is one of only four schools nationwide to appear in the top-10 at least once in each of the last six years (Duke, North Carolina and Pittsburgh). Through 17 games, the Hoyas have more wins over ranked teams - four- than any team in the country. They are 4-1 against ranked teams, beating then No. 8 Memphis, 91-88, in overtime, winning at No. 8 Alabama, 57-55, winning at No. 4 Louisville (71-68) and beating Marquette (73-70).

Senior guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game, which is 16th in the BIG EAST. Clark is also averaging 4.2 rebounds,1.9 steals and 1.7 assists. He scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out a career-high eight assists in the win over St. John's. Clark has 1,162 points and needs 30 more points to pass Merlin Wilson (1972-76) for 28th place all-time at Georgetown.

Junior forward Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) is second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Thompson, who scored 20 points and hit all seven of his field goal attempts, including five from three-point land, during the second half against SJU, leads the team in field goal percentage (53.3%) and is leading the BIG EAST in three-point field goal percentage at 52.8%, which ranks No. 12 nationally. He has reached double figures in scoring 15 times this season.

Senior center Henry Sims (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) is averaging 11.6 points, is third on the team with 5.2 rebounds and leads the team with 3.65 assists. Sims, who leads the Hoyas with 26 blocks shots (1.5 per game), is the only player in the BIG EAST among the-15 in the league in both assists and blocked shots.

Freshman forward Otto Porter (Sikeston, Mo./Scott County Central) recorded his fourth game with double figure rebounds in the win over St. John's, picking up his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He is fifth on the team in scoring with 8.4 points and leads the team with 6.6 rebounds.

DePaul enters tonight's game with a 10-7 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the BIG EAST. Sophomore forward Cleveland Melvin leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.0 points and 6.2 boards per game. Sophomore guard Brandon Young is second on the team in scoring with 16.9 points and leads the team with 4.7 assists per game. Senior guard Jeremiah Kelly is third on the team with 9.6 points and has hit a team-high 36 three-pointers, while sophomore forward Moses Morgan is averaging 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds and has hit 32 three-pointers.
