Last month's Maryland Team Camp provided an opportunity to catch up with Class of 2024 guard/forward, Ty Bevins. A 6'5" performer at Gwynn Park (MD), Bevins is starting to get major recruiting love, with Georgetown, George Mason and NJIT, programs with a strong DMV recruiting footprint, having all offered him a scholarship.
They are not alone; per a recent Bevins tweet, the Owls of Temple has also offered, as has Charleston.
When looking at Bevins' game, think a guy who can play multiple positions. He dribbles, shoots and passes at a high level, thereby creating mismatches. Bevin' approach to the game is definitely learned.
Taught by whom?
His mother, among others that's who. Former Division I player at University of Maryland Eastern Shore player Tiffany Miller-Bevins is her name, and not only did she coach him she still does, as an assistant on Gwynn Park High School (MD).
The head coach at Gwynn Park is bullish on what Bevins is and can be.
"Ty Bevins might be the MOST versatile player I've coached since Micah Till" stated GP head coach Rob Garner. Till was a former standout two sport player of his at Wise (MD), who initially played tight end at North Carolina State, before becoming a Division II All-American forward at Slippery Rock.
"Bevins has such a great all around game and a PRO level feel for the game!" continued Garner. "We call him THE MATRIX".
What kind of player does Garner envision Bevins becoming?
"I expect Bevins to reach his full potential as the best player in the DMV's 2024 class", revealed Garner. "I'm looking for him to be MORE AGGRESSIVE in every statistical area"!
On court wins will follow also, as according to Garner "Gwynn Park hasn't won a state championship since 1988. I expect TYB to be a MAJOR reason why this changes".
Bevins just may be a key cog in doing that. He also likely will be a big time, national level recruit. One from the DMV the Hoyas got in early with.
