This evening another Division I assistant coach has been noted by a trusted source as being talked about in the basketball world as a possibility for one of Georgetown’s open assistant coach spots. With Patrick Ewing taking the program’s reins and being officially announced tomorrow, the race to fill a staff is in full swing.

Who was discussed? Dwayne Anderson is that guy.

Yes, the Dwayne Anderson who is currently a Penn State assistant coach, where he’s worked since 2013. As a Nittany Lion, Anderson has been a top recruiter, specializing in his hometown DMV region – see current PSU guard Josh Reaves and ’18 recruit Myles Dread.

Anderson should know DC-Maryland-Virginia well, having starred there at St. John’s College High School (DC), graduating in 2004. As a Cadet, he was tabbed Washington Post All-Met First team as a senior.

From there it was on to Villanova, where current PSU head guy and then ‘Nova assistant Pat Chambers coached him. Anderson graduated in 2009 after captaining the Wildcats to NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and Final Four appearances as a junior/senior. In 2006, Anderson and Villanova made that year’s Elite Eight round.

After earning a sociology degree, Anderson took his show to the international stage, playing in Germany and Italy. Several All-Star designations were earned over his four year pro career.

More than simply a DMV-based recruiter, Anderson has lured Trent Buttrick (a ’17 graduating native of Pennsylvania) to Happy Valley, while also playing a key role in attracting the school’s blockbuster freshman Philly players Lamar Stevens, Tony Carr, Jr., and Nazeer Bostic, a group that comprises three-fourths of what many believe the best recruiting class in program history.

Add experience developing bigs and some wings to value added provided by Anderson, as well as knowledge of the travel team space, a prerequisite for recruiting success.

A good, young recruiter with major energy, contacts, the ability to improve players and recruit them checks a lot of boxes in any college coaching search.

Dwayne Anderson does that.
