What Happened with Hammond

Before yesterday, many in the Hoya Nation felt confident head Hoya coach Pat Ewing would secure the services of Marcus Hammond. A 6'3" possible transfer from Niagara, Hammond averaged 18.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and a little less than three assists for the Eagles last year.

Georgetown, Rutgers, Notre Dame and Kansas State populated Hammond's list, a group the Hoyas compare well to. Add the fact Rutgers signed a back court guy somewhat similar to Hammond's K-State visit being cancelled, and the guard with two years of eligibility remaining seemed possibly headed to G'Town. Factoring Hammond's father's feelings - he really liked Georgetown - and logically many loved the Hoyas' chances.

Then yesterday arrived; after this weekend's Notre Dame visit, Hammond quickly popped for the Domers. In doing so, many Georgetown fans were left reeling, straining to understand what happened.

On Premium Court, we tackled that question, briefly outlining Hammond's recruitment and delving into factors that swayed him towards South Bend.
