Reaves talks

May 29, 2014 - In Nike Elite Youth Basketball League action, Class of 2015 guard Josh Reaves has been solid this season, averaging 10.9 points per game on 50.8% from the field. That PPG mark is good for fourth on Team Takeover, a team that owns a 9-5 record and didn't finish in the top 16 in league play - the automatic Peach Jam Championship qualifying mark. Nevertheless Takeover will compete in that top level, NCAA open recruiting period event.

Reaves is also slotted fourth on Takeover in rebounds (3.6) and assists (1.9). When evaluating his point totals in the EYBL's last two regular season stops - Hampton and Minneapolis - it becomes clear that he's more or less mirrored Takeover's team success: Reaves scored 11, 16,six and nine points in Hampton, 13, six, eight, six and eight during Minneapolis play. The team logged 2-2 and 3-2 records in Hampton and Minny, respectively, the latter including a key victory over division leading Wings Elite, a win that was likely key in Takeover being invited to Peach Jam.

Essentially, both Reaves and Takeover have been up and down.

In terms of Reaves' performance in Hampton, the 6'4", 185 pound athletic guard that excels in defending, providing energy, driving, dishing and at times spotting up for three pointers did all of that, but there have also been times when he would be invisible.

Takeover assistant coach Brenden Straughn relayed much the same of Reaves' Minneapolis work. "Overall solid weekend. Showed a good floor game. Made that game winning assist to Marcus (Derrickson) in the Cal Supreme game" said Straughn, a good young coach with his finger on Takeover 17u's pulse. "Plenty of good drives, and all over on defense with deflections and steals" (he leads Takeover with 1.4 swipes per contest).

According to Straughn, Reaves also diminished his performance, as Josh "has a tendency to get in foul trouble and take away the impact he can have on game because he is on the bench". Some of that occurred in Hampton as well.

What was Reaves' take at Hampton on Takeover's cyclical performance? Did Straughn see improvement in the team, which boasts 2015 Hoya commit Derrickson and prospect Bryant Crawford, in Minneapolis?
