Last night was a two game Nike DC Pro City Kenner League slate. Below are game reports along with several tidbits/observations.

Oh yeah; DC Pro City Kenner announced the snack bar's reopening!

Despite a dominant second half from professional forward Darion Atkins of DMAS, Higher Level held on for victory, riding 21 points, four rebounds, two assists from George Mason’s ‘Ticket’ Gaines to victory. His collegiate teammate, Devin Dinkins, managed 12 points, a team high five rebounds, while Georgetown’s Denver Anglin put up 11 points and a HL high three dimes.

Atkins scored 16 points while pacing all rebounders with 10, including six on the offensive side. Fellow Team Takeover alum and international pro, Jerian Grant, chipped in 11 points and nine boards. Yale guard led DMAS Bez Mbeng, dropping 23 points.

Down just two points after Atkins’ shot with the clock reading 1:50 in regulation, DMAS would not score again, due to strategic HL fouling and an unforced turnover by Mbeng. .

Notes:

Atkins, a load in the paint, last season played for Germany’s Chemnitz. The UVA graduate is a first division, European fixture.

Gaines is quietly putting together a very good Pro City Kenner League performance, not only scoring which he’s known for, but pulling down boards.

Dinkins just puts up numbers. As he grows in confidence, Devin becomes more indispensable for HL.

Grant, an all around perimeter guy, is still an unselfish guy willing to share the game. Was at Italy’s Milan last season.

Yale has a good one coming in Mbeng, who scores, rebounds, passes. Think all-around guard when describing him. For the evening, Mbeng stuffed the stat sheet with not only the aforementioned game-best tying 21 points, (5-9 from three point land, 8-13 overall), but seven rebounds, three assists, two steals.

Call Your Mother 94 On Point 76

Howard’s Elijah ‘Lil E’ Hawkins pushed OP to equalize the score at 32 late in the first half, soon thereafter pushing them ahead by a bucket. OP would not lead again.

Hawkins logged 22 points, five rebounds and six helpers. Georgetown's Ryan Mutombo put up 12 points and pulled down eight caroms.

CYM was lead in scoring by 22 points from Nana Opoku, of Mount St. Mary’s. Will Vetter of Virginia State added 15 points, four rebounds, while Marcquise Reed, formerly of Clemson, accounted for 11 points and seven rebounds.

Notes:

Hawkins is proving himself a scorer capable of driving, finishing and shooting the long ball. Expect big things from him in the MEAC this year.

Opoku has turned heads this summer. Hyper athletic, Opoku is pushing the likes of Higher Level/G'Town guard Jordan Riley (seven points) for 2002 Best Pro City Kenner finisher.

This Reed guy is still the same guy he’s always been; Marquise gets buckets, in effortless fashion. He’s a hard wired for generating numbers, super confident scorer.
