Pro City Kenner, 7.2

June 3, 2016 - Following are updates on selected players from yesterday’s Nike Pro City Kenner League, the Georgetown, McDonough Arena based college/pro basketball confab. Players both Hoya and non are included.

For more detailed write-ups on G’Town student athletes, see Premium Court.

The schedule for today's action is here.

Henry Sims – Clydes, 6’11, 260 pound center, New Jersey Nets – Former Georgetown standout finished last season with the New Jersey Nets, and played like it yesterday, banging, running the floor, defending the rim and scoring in and out of the paint. He was intent on ‘monstering’ guys and exuded confidence.

Had 14 points.

Needs to continue burnishing his back to the basket game, so he doesn’t have to power thru foes as much.

Rashad Whack – Clydes, 6’3”, 200 pound guard, international pro – Whack scored 17 points via driving and of course shooting, the latter being his specialty. Played for the Island Storm in NBL Canada action last year. Could end up in Switzerland this season.

Is clearly stronger and desires to hone that now, which will make him quicker.

Anthony Cowan – McClinton All Stars, 5’11”, 150 pound freshman guard, Maryland – The Terp frosh sped around and made plays, including finding teammates. Scored nine points.

The need for Cowan to get stronger and bigger was clear, as he got bounced around at times. To his credit Anthony still competed, and the longer he played seemed to figure out what would work and what wouldn’t.

Darion Atkins – McClinton All Stars, 6’9”, 220 pound forward, Westchester Knicks – Battling Sims tooth and nail, it was clear Atkins is a pro. He certainly is.

“The season was good” said the former UVA standout of his ’15-16 season. “As a rookie I got a lot of experience going to the Knicks’ camp and them putting me in the D-League and running the Triangle system”.

He “played 33 minutes a game, averaged eight (points), nine (rebounds)" for Westchester, "and like two blocks. It was a lot of fun”.

When battling Sims that work came in handy, since pro ball is “a man’s game”, and despite always being physical “it was something I definitely had to adjust to this season…I like going against the big guys”.

This summer he shard “I’m going to play summer league with the Golden State Warriors and see where I can go with that”. International offers also exist, but Atkins noted “I’m laser focused on summer league right now”.
