Georgetown Slips in Road Matchup at St. John’s
LIVE STATSFULL SCHEDULEROSTER QUEENS, N.Y. – Playing its first road contest of the season, the Georgetown University men's basketball team dropped a 94-83 decision to St. John's on Sunday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at Carnesecca Arena. With the setback, the Hoyas slip to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in league play, while the Red Storm move to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference action

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS Jahvon Blairled the Hoyas with 25 points, marking his fourth 20-point effort of the season. He hit 8-of-9 from the free throw line while also leading the squad with six assists.Donald Careyscored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, draining five 3-pointers.Qudus Wahabwas also in double figures with 12 points, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the charity stripe.Jamorko Pickett pulled out a game-high 11 rebounds as Georgetown outrebounded St. John's 38-35.
HOW IT HAPPENEDThe Hoyas started 3-of-3 from the floor and connected on five of their first seven shots to take a 12-9 lead. However, St. John's answered with a 15-2 run to go ahead 24-14.A quick 5-0 run, behind a Blair trey and a transition layup from Chudier Bile cut the Red Storm lead in half, but St. John's came back with a quartet of 3-pointers as part of another 15-4 run that put GU in a 39-23 hole.Carey got hot from downtown, draining a trio of 3-pointers down the stretch to spur an 11-5 Georgetown run that cut the deficit to 49-41 at halftime.
The Hoyas continued to cut into the lead, opening the second half on an 8-2 run - behind a pair of buckets from Pickett - to make it a two-point game at 51-49.With the Hoyas training by five (58-53), St. John's embarked on a 20-5 run over a five-minute stretch to open up a 78-58 advantage.Five quick points from Blair, and a Timothy Ighoefe bucket cut it to 82-69 with 4:27 remaining, but the Red Storm hit their free throws down the stretch to hold Georgetown at bay.A Jamari Sibley jumper and five more points from Blair in the final minute provided the final score.
OF NOTE Blair's three 3-pointers give him 164 for his career, which is eighth in Georgetown's career rankings. He is one back of Markel Starks and Gerald Riley for a tie for sixth all-time.
UP NEXT FOR THE HOYASThe Hoyas will play one more game before the holidays, heading back out on the road for a matchup at Seton Hall on Wednesday, December 23. Tipoff at the Prudential Center is set for 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FS1.
