Georgetown's Clark, Sims to Play in Portsmouth Invitational this Week

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University seniors Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and Henry Sims (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) were among a group of senior college basketball players from across the country invited to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational, being held this week in Portsmouth, Va.

For the last 58 years, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament has invited 64 seniors to participate in the four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team. Games will be played beginning on Wednesday, April 11 and conclude on Saturday, April 14. Clark and Sims were among nine BIG EAST players invited to participate.

An All-BIG EAST First Team selection this season, Clark was the recipient of the BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award, voted on by the league's coaches, and was an All-District 2 Second Team selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Clark led the team, and ranked 17th in the BIG EAST, in scoring with 14.0 points per game, was third in field goal percentage (47.6%), second in three-point field goals made (48) and second in free throw percentage (75.0%). He was fourth on the team with 4.1 rebounds per game, led the team with 1.6 steals (which ranked eighth in the BIG EAST) and was third on the team with 1.8 assists per game.

In 130 career games, Clark scored 1,363 points - a 10.5 per game average. He ranks 20th all-time in scoring on the Hilltop and passed former Hoya All-American Jeff Green (2004-07) when he scored 21 points against Belmont in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 16.

Clark's 183 three-point field goals rank fourth all-time at Georgetown and he ranks third all-time in three-point field goals attempted (504) and 17th all-time in three-point percentage (36.3%).

The 6-2 guard is also tied for 14th all-time with 170 steals (with Brandon Bowman, 2002-06) and tied for 14th all-time with 130 games played (Eric Floyd, 1979-82). His 99 career starts are the 22nd-most in program history while his 3,760 minutes played - 28.9 minutes per game - rank 11th all-time.

A 6-10 center, Sims enjoyed the best year of his career as a senior. He finished third on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg), second in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and led the team with 3.5 assists. Sims ranked 14th in the BIG EAST in assists and 20th among league players in rebounds. Entering his senior year with 88 games played and three games in double figures in scoring, Sims reached double figures 21 times this year. A skilled passer, Sims led the team in assists 21 times this season.

Sims, an All-BIG EAST Third Team selection, also led the team in blocked shots (1.4 per game) and was the only player to rank among the top-15 in the BIG EAST in both assists and blocks. His 94 career rejections ranks 19th all-time at Georgetown.

Sims was one of 20 players selected to play in the 2012 Reese's Division I College All-Star Game during Final Four weekend earlier this month in New Orleans. He scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and had two assists in that game.

Georgetown finished the 2011-12 season with a 24-9 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in eight years under Thompson. The Hoyas, who were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST, posted a 12-6 record in league play and were among the top five teams in the league.
