Teams and Coaches Participating in the Jimmy V Classic to be Honored at Dinner Auction
(Cary, NC)-The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation's leading cancer research foundations, Madison Square Garden and Team ESPN are proud to announce the 18th Jimmy V Classic Dinner. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Pier Sixty at New York City's Chelsea Pier. It kicks off the college basketball season by honoring the six teams participating in this year's Jimmy V Basketball Classic. Net proceeds from the Jimmy V Classic Dinner will benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research's one million dollar grant for research of the cancers affecting 9/11 First Responders who worked at Ground Zero.
"The Jimmy V Classic Dinner represents a winning combination-love of basketball and a passion for saving lives," said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation. "The coaches and players are extremely generous with their time and talents. We are deeply grateful to all who participate in support of critical research to help stem the cause of cancers that are increasingly plaguing the heroic 9/11 first-responders. This shared commitment to saving lives is at the heart of our work at The V Foundation."
The Jimmy V Classic Dinner continues to draw notable men's and women's college basketball coaches to New York City. Attending men's coaches include Georgetown's John Thompson III, Texas' Rick Barnes, NC State's Mark Gottfried and Connecticut's Kevin Ollie. Women's coaches include Maryland's Brenda Frese and Connecticut's Geno Auriemma. Each coach represents a team participating in this year's Jimmy V Basketball Classic. The women's teams will play on December 3, 2012, at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The men's teams will compete on December 4, 2012, at Madison Square Garden.
The coaches will provide items for a silent auction, mingle with guests throughout the evening and speak about the upcoming season. Pier Sixty, the largest waterfront venue on the Hudson River in Manhattan, will once again host the event. Individual tickets, full tables and sponsorship opportunities for the Jimmy V Classic Dinner are available now.
