The Alumni Basketball Association presents a local donnybrook, with Georgetown and Maryland locking horns in round ball. No, present Hoyas and Terps are not taking the court, former ones are. Enter the Alumni Basketball League.

Founded by Kareem Rush who was an Arkansas standout, the ABL's foundational tenet is predicated on former players competing in regulated competition for fans, with supporter accessibility being prominent

If that's reminiscent to the BIG 3 competition, well that makes sense; per reports, Rush was partly inspired by it. According to Ricky Goings, a Kansas/Missouri alumni game in 2018 was also muse for Rush and ABL.

He should know. He's the Alumni Basketball League's Director of Team Operations. What does that role entail?

"I work with the teams' general managers to recruit and develop competitive alumni teams" shared Goings, an event director and hoops head that has a national footprint. "I also use my experience in alumni basketball league operations to offer advice on the big picture structure going forward".

How does Goings foresee the ABL benefiting players?

He's bullish, stating "I think this can become a really good opportunity for alumni to put their old uniform back on, and make some money ($2500) while doing it".

He also sees potential ABL staying power, as "Nostalgia is a powerful agent of sports".
