Derrickson is running

May 8, 2015 - Incoming Hoya Marcus Derrickson has never been considered fleet of foot. In fact, leg injuries have previously plagued the 6'8", Class of 2015 forward, one capable of scoring from the perimeter or around the cup. He may be an offensive matchup problem, but Derrickson is not thought of as a track star.
Though this year at Brewster Academy (NH) he's reported weight loss of 45 pounds, Derrickson is likely still not running a 4.3 second forty yard dash, but has clearly been pounding the pavement. In fact, he's doing so in a competition this weekend, a half marathon at that.

Yup, that's right, a 13+ mile race. Derrickson's entered in the Big Lake Half Marathon. Held in Alton, NH, the race begins 8a this Saturday and is a USATF Certified Half Marathon Course of 13.10938 miles. This is a relatively serious event, evidenced by its computer-based timing system.
Per Brewster's head coach Josh Smith (see tweet below), Derrickson will be attempting the Big Lake with Josh Lee, Brewster assistant coach and head of Strength/Conditioning who is also owner of ACTION Sports & Physical Therapy.
"In season he was taking it upon himself to do extra cardio & watching diet" communicated Lee this morning. "This was a challenge offered after season".
Lee believes Derrickson is up to it, lauding his pupil by tweeting of Marcus "Maybe the biggest body transformation I've seen in 9 years at Brewster. He took all the tools and applied them bc he wanted to".
Don't believe it? Visit Premium Court for a picture of the new streamlined Derrickson who entered Brewster last fall at 283 pounds and slimmed down to a reported 238 lbs!
Good luck goes out to Derrickson and Lee.
