Clydes 81- Beyond Belief 78

In a double overtime thriller, number two Clydes outlasted Beyond Belief (#7) in a nick and tuck affair; Talib Zanna’s three free throws gave Clydes a slim five point, double OT lead, the largest bulge since early in the second half, which started as a 41-34 Beyond Belief advantage.

BB was able to amass that lead based in large measure to the work of its bigs, Derrick Cook (10 points), Maurice Pearson (15 points), James Carlton (nine points) and Jonathan Arledge (seven points). All of these players are at least 6’9”.

Initially it was only Jessie Govan manning the middle for Clydes. Luckily Talib Zanna arrived with around seven minutes before intermission, expanding the victor’s interior footprint. The pair finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Clyde’s L.J. Peak paced all scorers with 30 points, including a late regulation scenario where he stole the ball twice back to back, the first producing a score, the second resulting in one of two free throws made and a score tied at 64.

Double overtime saw more Peak performance, particularly consecutive layups, resulting in Clyde's 77-76 lead.

Zanna’s three of four free throws put the game out of reach for the victors, yet ultimately BB must blame losing on themselves; six consecutive free throws were missed to close the game and first bonus period.

Players:

Derrick Cook – Beyond Belief, 6’8”, 230 pound forward, D–League – An athletic big man who runs the floor and finishes, Cook scored early. Played for Bakersfield, which is now Phoenix. May stay there.

Needs to work on his shooting skills.

Talib Zanna – Clydes, 6’8”, 240 pound forward, international pro – Last season Zanna manned the paint for Oklahoma City’s D-League entry last season. Impacted the tin area last night also; without him, Clydes would have surely lost. Was a presence.

Is headed to Nanterre (France), where he will play in that country’s A division. Should work on his mid-range shooting in anticipation of European ball.

L.J. Peak – Clydes, 6’5”, 210 pound junior guard, Georgetown – Battled and slashed throughout, while also making key shots…(Premium Court).

Jessie Govan – Clydes, 7’0”, 260 pound sophomore center, Georgetown – Played strong and even hit some trail position/outside shots. After one of the former, he told his defender…(Premium Court)
