Ending nearly a year of speculation, Georgetown freshman guard Aminu Mohammed has confirmed his desire to join professional ball, eschewing a Georgetown return for year two and staying in the National Basketball Association Draft. June 1st, yesterday, was the deadline for withdraw of the 2022 NBA Draft edition if a return to school for early (read non-senior) aspirants was desired.

In his single season of Hoya work, Mohammed, hailing originally from Nigeria, averaged 13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds per game, the team's top marks. His 32.2 minutes each time out was third for HC Pat Ewing and staff, the same slotting as Mohammed's 56 total assist stat.

When the season progressed, it was obvious Mohammed was the team's number one scouting report fixture; teams started to scheme away his strengths - energy, toughness, willingness to attack - forcing him to display weaker skills like shooting and at times decision making under pressure.

Despite the squad going a lamentable 0-19 in the BIG EAST, Mohammed acquitted himself well, earning All BIG EAST Rookie status. Accolades were received throughout the season

That work, along with being a Rivals.com five star player ranked fifth nationally in 2021, enjoying prestigious McDonald All-American status and being the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year as a high school senior at Greenwood Lab (MO), motivates Mohammed's decision while also driving NBA team interest. So does a senior high school average of 23.3 ppg and 10 ppg, being Missouri Basketball Coaches Association's Mr. Show-me Basketball 2021 winner, plus prodigious three year production of 3,219 points, 1,478 rebounds.

Mohammed has already participated in this year's NBA Combine, and per Twitter reports worked out for the Atlanta Hawks, recently. There is believed to be around 20 league franchises interested in him to varying degrees.
