Dickerson is doing it

May 21, 2014 - In Nike EYBL play this spring, Class of 2015 Georgetown commit Noah Dickerson's Georgia Stars have had a tough road of it - the proud elite travel team outfit is just 1-11 on the season. Last weekend at the league's third stop, Hampton, they went 1-4, earning their first victory against Playground Elite.

To date in the EYBL, Dickerson is averaging 14.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and a block each game. He's also pulled down 41 offensive rebounds of 60 total caroms.

During the team's 60-59 Saturday afternoon loss to Houston Hoops, Dickerson finished with 10 points, 14 boards, two blocks and a steal. The team could have pulled out the win, but for oft-displayed flaws.

"You know, throughout the whole year we've had a hard time scoring against the zone, and we've had a hard time stopping the run" said Dickerson, obviously disappointed about the loss. "Stopping the run early enough so we still have the lead. We stopped the run, they got up about like five (points). And at that point and time we were actually hitting some shots, and started playing catch up".

In kicked the Stars' trouble with a general defensive scheme.

"We have a hard time getting the zone to move" said Dickerson, commenting on his team's penchant for not probing/shifting the zone, instead choosing to launch outside shots, many contested. "Once we get the zone to move, it's pretty easy. But we have a hard time getting the zone to move".

That fact is widely known on the EYBL; a competing coach admitted it court side. In the EYBL, games are scouted, tendencies identified and weaknesses exploited.

Being a forward/center, Dickerson is a dependent player so to speak, a guy that receives the ball around the paint by and large. Therefore he must be passed the rock to score, or get it off the glass. The former doesn't occur as much as it should, the latter, based on 68% of his rebounds being offensive, does.

In addition to boarding and finishing around the tin, Dickerson protects the rim and has a good elbow jump shot. For more on each, as well as his upper body weight regimen, see Premium Court.
