Blue, Grey and White make things go

February 8, 2013 - Yesterday during their pre-game presser, members of the G'Town program talked about their upcoming matchup with Rutgers. In between discussions of the team's upcoming foe Rutgers, and that school's potent yet mercurial trio of guards, RU's big men and the need to stay focused on both, questions regarding the Hoyas' improvement were fielded. Going 6-1 has that effect, particularly when one of the squad's best players, sophomore Greg Whittington has not been available over the last four games, all wins.

But just how did the Hoyas bounce back from a heart breaking loss at Marquette and home drubbing at the hands of Pitt a month ago?

Theories and thoughts abound, with improved defense, defining offensive roles and the emergence of inexperienced players all existing.

There is an adage that may also apply; practice makes perfect. It is during those closed sessions (literally and figuratively), the Hoyas work on fundamentals as well as prepare for opponents. Crucial to that is the scout group.

At Georgetown, that group is dubbed the White team, and comprises players that don't see copious or any time in the game, guys that in lieu of clock must focus on pushing the starters and key reserves. As a scout team, they also mimic the upcoming foes' plays and tendencies.

Just who is G'Town's White team, and how are they functioning? See our Premium Court message board for that and other tidbits, including how the scout guys are pushing their teammates. Head coach John Thompson III, along with Markel Starks, Otto Porter and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera comment.
