'Cap' gets schollie
The life of a walk on is thankless, given an equal work load as scholarship players, and lack of similar payoff in terms of a scholarship and regular playing time. They do if for love of game and school.
Well, senior guard/forward John Caprio, on the verge of his last season, is a Georgetown walk on no more; he's been granted a scholarship for 2013-2014, according to a school press release.
In it, Caprio discussed the hard work involved - "It was three years of pushing yourself in practice and doing everything the scholarship players do" and his feeling on being 'schollied up', "Finally to have it culminate and pay off, it's definitely a great feeling".
Caprio also noted he will "continue to work hard to help the team and I'm going to work as hard as I have for the last three years".
A 6'4", athletic performer that's unafraid to bang and scrap, Caprio's work has translated into increased game appearances every year he's been on The Hilltop. Last season saw him get clock in 14 contests, with a career high 12 minute stint versus Seton Hall standing as most impactful. In that contest, Caprio scored four points and snagged six boards, a positive role no matter the barometer.
Hats off to 'Cap'. He's earned it.
