June 18, 2013June 18, 2013 - After a year in which then sophomore swingman Greg Whittington proved himself a burgeoning talent, averaging 12.1 points, seven rebounds, two assists, .8 blocks, 1.3 steals in 35.2 minutes a game, hopes for his 2013-2014 season have been high. Part of the buzz surrounding this 6'8" multifaceted Hoya performer centers around him playing only 13 games last year, due to being ruled academically ineligible.
Head Georgetown coach John Thompson III has previously indicated Whittingon, a Columbia, MD native, was expected back this year. The departure of all-everything forward Otto Porter for the National Basketball Association has only increased the expectations surrounding Whittington.
Well, new developments may temper them; Eight days ago it was discussed on our Premium Court message board that Whittington hurt his knee in pick up ball, but according to a source the injury centered around one of his meniscus, not a dreaded damaged ACL.
Since then, talk on the 'world-wide interweb' has exploded with students reporting he's on crutches. That discussion has reached a crescendo of sorts, as recent reports suggested Whittington indeed suffered an ACL injury, one that could put him on ice for this upcoming season.
Nothing is confirmed at this point, but as to be expected the Hoya Nation is talking about it. Join the back and forth on our Premium Court message board.
